On January 26, 1984, Henry was convicted of robbery with a deadly weapon and attempted kidnapping, offenses he committed a year earlier in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at the age of 17. He was released on parole in September 1988.

In 1990, at the age of 24, Henry lived with his 15-year-old girlfriend, Trina Brown, and Henry’s brother in Smyrna, Tennessee.
