In October 2022, Henry E. Hodges, a convicted serial killer, who has been on death row for over 30 years for killing three men, severed his penis while on suicide watch.

Henry Hodges was born in Florida on August 16, 1966. Details about his upbringing and childhood are not well-documented.

On January 26, 1984, Henry was convicted of robbery with a deadly weapon and attempted kidnapping, offenses he committed a year earlier in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at the age of 17. He was released on parole in September 1988.

Following his release, Henry, a self-proclaimed prostitute, became active in the Nashville gay community. He would often engage with men in bars or parks, who would offer him money in exchange for oral sex. Despite his involvement, Henry denied identifying as gay. However, some members of the Nashville gay community described him as a confused individual grappling with his sexuality.

In 1990, at the age of 24, Henry lived with his 15-year-old girlfriend, Trina Brown, and Henry’s brother in Smyrna, Tennessee. Trina had previously run away from her Ohio foster home and was residing on the streets of Nashville when she met Henry in 1988.
