Stabbed 68 Times: The Brutal Murder of Pfc. Katia Duenas-Aguilar
On May 18, 2024, at approximately 8:33 pm, Clarksville police responded to an ambulance call in the 900 block of Tiny Town Road in Clarksville, Tennessee. Inside the home, officers found the body of a young woman.
What happened to her and why?
On May 19, 2024, a day after the body was discovered, it was identified as 23-year-old Katia Duenas-Aguilar.
Katia was originally from Mesquite, Texas, a vibrant suburban city just east of Dallas. She enlisted in the Army in 2018 right after graduating high school and had been stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky as an information technology specialist since 2019.
Katia, the mother of a 4-year-old, had told her mother, Carmen, that she planned to leave the Army sometime in May 2024. However, she changed her mind after a counseling session earlier in the month. According to Carmen, Katia stopped all communication with her afterward, which was unusual.
On May 25, 2024, her mother announced she was adding $30,000 to the $25,000 reward already offered by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).
On July 2, 2024 an autopsy report revealed that Katia sustained “68 sharp force injuries” primarily on her neck, which was also determined as the cause of death. The report also noted a blood alcohol content of .161 and the presence of Gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) in her system.
Gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) is a psychoactive drug, usually used as an anesthetic or for the treatment of narcolepsy. However, GHB is known as a “date rape” drug, which can incapactiate an individual and cause memory loss.
There have been no arrests made as of July 2, 2024 and the homicide investigation is ongoing.
