She Spent the Day With her Aunt, Never to be Seen Again — What Happened to Ashley Lashay Jones?
Ashley Lashay or “Shay-Bug” was born on April 20, 1992, to her parents Vicky Morris and Brian Jones. She resided with her mother, step-father Carl Morris, and her older sister Erica ‘Nikki’ Nicole in Memphis, Tennessee.
While Vicky Morris lived with her family in Memphis, her sister Joyce Lindsey resided in Asheville, North Carolina with her husband, who was reportedly abusive towards Joyce. Upon reaching out to their mother, who also resided in Memphis, Joyce decided to make plans to move to Tennessee in order to rebuild her life.
On September 14, 1996, Joyce arrived at a Memphis motel and contacted Vicky who noticed that her sister seemed to be intoxicated.
On September 15, Vicky visited the motel where she discovered that Joyce was still intoxicated and seemingly pregnant. Joyce agreed to accompany her sister to sober up at her home. That night, Joyce met Vicky’s daughters, 12-year-old Nikki and 4-year-old Ashley. Although it was Ashley’s first encounter with her aunt, she quickly formed a fondness for her, even sleeping with her in the guest bedroom. Joyce made arrangements to spend the following day at home with Ashley and to take both Nikki and Ashley shopping.
