Case Summary

In February 2020, Tennessee residents received an Amber Alert for 15-month-old Evelyn Boswell, missing from her home in Blountville. Her remains were found a month later on her family’s property. The case revealed a troubled family history involving drug use, domestic violence, and arrests. Evelyn’s mother, Megan Boswell, provided misleading information during the investigation, leading to her arrest and charges of making false reports. Evelyn’s death, ruled asphyxia, resulted in Megan facing additional charges, including felony murder. The investigation and trial were delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and legal complications.

Updates

On June 20, 2024, Megan appeared in court after her new lawyer, Gene Scott, requested a change of venue. However, just a day before, Megan Boswell was served with a new indictment of first degree murder. This charge alleges that Evelyn’s death was intentional and premeditated. According to the prosecution, this new charge stems from newly discovered evidence.

Megan Boswell is now charged with:

  • one count of first-degree murder,
  • two counts of felony murder,
  • one count of felony child abuse,
  • one count of aggravated child neglect,
  • one count of tampering with evidence
  • one count of abuse of a corpse,
  • one count of failure to report a death,
  • and 12 counts of false reporting.

During the court hearing, Megan pleaded not guilty to the new charge. She had pleaded not guilty to the prior charges as well.

The prosecution announced in 2021 that they are seeking life imprisonment without the possibility of parole should Megan be found guilty.

A new court date to discuss the change of venue motion was set to August 15, 2024.

As of now, Megan Boswell’s trial is set to start in February 2025.
